Arches Award

A former award for research cooperation and high excellence in science

Up until 2019 the Federal German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) funded innovative scientific German-Israeli cooperations

About the Arches Award - a retrospection

The purpose of the ARCHES Award was to recognise and reward outstanding, promising, innovative and future-oriented contributions to research as well as to strengthen German-Israeli scientific collaboration. Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research for more than 10 years with each € 266,000 and managed by the Minerva Stiftung, the ARCHES Award was conferred every other year on three German-Israeli research teams, each headed by two highly-qualified and talented young scientists.

ARCHES focused on all areas within the natural and engineering sciences, the life sciences, and the humanities. Each research section had been presented with one ARCHES Award.

Ten years of excellent German-Israeli scientific awardees

In 2019 the BMBF decided to suspend the ARCHES Prize for the time being and instead focus on other funding lines in the field of German-Israeli cooperation. As from then on, the award had been brought to an end. This had offered a finanical leverageto to expand support for the Minerva Fellowship Programme, which can be seen as one of the most successful funding programmes of the Minerva Stiftung.
