Different modes of light absorption and its conversion in chemical and biological systems, extending into applicative and environmental aspects. Emphasis is on photoinduced processes which span a wide range of topics in the gas, liquid, solid phases and their interfaces.
Unterschiedliche Formen der Absorption und Konversion von Licht in chemischen und biologischen Systemen unter besonderer Berücksichtigung anwendungsorientierter und umweltrelevanter Aspekte. Schwerpunkt ist die Untersuchung photoinduzierter Prozesse in einem weiten Themenfeld in Gasen, Flüssigkeiten, Festkörpern und ihren Grenzflächen.

The scientific objective is to explore a variety of photoinduced processes in the gas, liquid, solid phases and their interfaces in several fields of research:
1) basic photophysics
2) surface science, non-linear optics and photochemistry of interfaces
3) photochemical conversion in organized media
4) electron transfer in model and in vivo photosynthesis
5) dynamics of photoexcited guest chromophores in liquid crystals
6) time-resolved EPR spectroscopy
7) photophysics of visual processes
8) dynamics of proteins
9) con-formational change of phototriggered macromolecules
10) chemical dynamics by femtosecond laser spectroscopy
11) Photoionization of large molecules and clusters
12) Mass Spectrometry
13) Laser desorption
