The closing date for this call is 2 May 2017.

Who is eligible to apply:
MRG are available for all subject areas and are open to applicants from all research facilities (in Israel - public or governmental research institutes) and universities in Germany and Israel. Applicants should not be older than 38 years. (Maternal leave will be taken into account with regard to the age limit).

Scientists presently holding a Minerva Fellowship are not eligible to apply. In addition, principal investigators in projects within the BMBF- MOST programs are not eligible to apply.


Selection criteria:
Selection criteria are: scientific excellence; scientifically promising and innovative research topics; relevance of the research topic to German-Israeli cooperation.


Time frame for MRG:
The selection of applications will be done by the Minerva Fellowship Committee during June 2017 and communicated to applicants accordingly. MRG can begin as of 1 July 2017 and must be completed latest by 31 December 2017.

Applications including letters of invitation and letters of recommendation must be sent by electronic mail and must reach the Minerva office by 2 May 2017.


Where to find and where to send applications:
Application forms may be downloaded from http//www.minerva.mpg.de. Both German and Israeli scientists must submit their applications to the Minerva Office in Munich attention Mr. Michael Nagel [nagel@gv.mpg.de]. In addition, Israeli applicants are requested to send copies of their applications by electronic mail to the Israeli Ministry of Science [Ronig@most.gov.il]. Applications must be written in English and sent by electronic mail. Only complete applications and applications sent by electronic mail will be processed.


Reporting:
Grant recipients are required to submit a one to two page report to Minerva within two weeks after completing their research visit. This report will reflect on the research, cooperation, publications, future perspectives and personal impressions. Copies of reports from Israeli scientists will be sent to MOST. In addition, recipients who take part in a conference or a workshop are asked to submit its program. The original airline ticket stub must be sent to Minerva after the grant recipient's return to her/his home country.


Fellowship rates:
The fellowship rates are paid as follows:

Graduate Students: EUR 300/week
Postdocs: EUR 425/week

Flights are covered by a lump sum of up to EUR 700.00.

Please note that grant holders will have to take care of health insurance themselves.

Applications for Minerva Short-Term Research Grants must include the following documents in English:

  • Application form [Word-Document 25 KB]
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Publication list covering the last 3 years
  • Brief summary of the applicants research focus and the connection it has to the planned visit (20 lines)
  • Letter of recommendation from the applicant's supervisor. Please arrange to have this letter sent directly to Minerva [at nagel@gv.mpg.de].

In addition:

For lab visits or visits to research partners:
  • Letter of invitation from the host (in English). Please arrange to have this letter sent directly to Minerva [nagel@gv.mpg.de].
  • For stays of more than one week: Justification for the length of stay and relating this to the research plan.

For participation in conferences/workshops:
  • The URL of the conference/workshop.
  • A copy of the submission (if applicable).
